In 1992, we began as an art studio in the basement of Mom and Dad's house, known as Cold Spring Hills Art School. The main focus of the school was to create an artistic, inspiring atmosphere, friendly to all ages (3-99) with an interest in the fine arts.
In 1995 we moved the studio to Huntington Village and The Village Artist Fine Arts Center was born! We offer year-round classes/workshops in drawing, painting (watercolor, acrylic, oils, pastel) sculpture, cartooning, fashion design, life drawing, portfolio preparation and more. We have an exciting summer program offering daily workshops in a variety of mediums for both children (6-12) and teens (13-18).
In addition we also offer kids night out, birthday parties and paint-n-sip events.
The Village Artist is also known for its custom frame shop. We have a wide array of frames, so you are sure to find something that suits your taste and budget. Whether its a ready-made for a poster or a high-end hand crafted moulding for a collectible, we have it. Whatever needs to be framed we can professionally frame it.

diana deSantis
Diana De Santis gained her art education from Parsons School of Design and the Traphagen School of Design. In 1989, she received a one-year scholarship to study with artists, David Leffel and Harvey Dinnerstein at the Arts Student League. Her love of art continued overseas to Italy, Russia, and France, where her work and articles was featured among those in pastels exhibits, museums, and international publications.
Her landscape artwork, done specifically in the plein air technique, is a part of many private collections. Diana is affiliated with the Francesca Anderson Fine Art Gallery. Portraits North, the Louisa Melrose Gallery in Frenchtown, NJ, and the Harborcrest Gallery in Huntington, NY. She is also an official Coast Guard artist. With over 200 awards and 15 gold medals for her art, Diana De Santis brings international experience to The Village Artist.

kate smith
Kate Smith, born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised predominately in Jacksonville, Florida moved to New York City after graduating from the University of Florida in Economics. She is married with three children and lives in Huntington, New York.
Although exposed to the arts as a child visiting museums in Washington, D.C. and across the county, Kate truly fell in love with art on her first trip to Italy in 1987. Upon commissioning portraits of her children and watching the image develop, she became interested in learning the art of painting.
She began to study with a friend and portrait artist, Victoria Carlin at The Village Artist in Huntington. Ms Carlin tutored Kate in oils and inspired her to look at the world from the perspective of an artist. She soon joined Ms Carlin and other artists on Plein Aire trips to Italy, Canada, France, Ireland and South Africa.
As her love and passion for painting grew she explored additional mediums of art. Kate has spent the last 12 years studying with high acclaimed pastel artist Diana DeSantis. In addition she has extended her studies in watercolor, oil and the fundamentals of drawing and painting with world-renowned highly acclaimed artists and teachers.
She is now a teacher of children and teens at The Village Artist.
Loren Faragasso
My interest in art began at an early age, leading me to win a national art contest at age 7. In the 1970's I began painting when a local artist viewed my work and decided I should become one of her students. I was trained in both acrylic painting and pastels. I received my first portrait commission at age 20 . Today I enjoy painting for my website and teaching "Paint n' Sips " for The Village Artist

lori hochberg - founder / director - BFA, MS Arts Education
Lori earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University and a Master of Science in Art Education from Long Island University, She is a certified K-12 art teacher. Additionally, she has continued her art education with post-graduate work in N.Y.C and on Long Island.
Lori has been teaching Fine Arts classes on Long Island for over twenty five years both in private and public school settings. The Academy of Fine Arts (Roslyn), North Shore Hebrew Academy (Great Neck), Town of Huntington Creative Arts Program, Half Hallow Hills SD#5, Love of Learning Montessori and West Hills Montessori are some of the institutions where she has taught. In addition to teaching in a school setting, Lori has instructed many private students children, teens, and adults - in drawing, painting and sculpture.
Lori founded The Village Artist Fine Art School in Huntington Village in 1995.

rikki chaskes
Rikki started as a student at The Village Artist when she was 9 years old. She attended Muhlenberg College where she studied fine art and elementary education. After graduating from Muhlenberg College, she went on to get her master’s degree in Literacy Studies at Hofstra University and a degree in special education. Rikki has been working at The Village artist during our summer camp program for 10 years. During the school year she teaches in an elementary school where she enjoys sharing her love of art with her students. Rikki’s art background includes painting, drawing, and photography. She has used her photography background to photograph school functions and the daily life of students at work. She loves watching her students’ reactions to seeing themselves as artists and the confidence they gain in themselves from working through the artistic process. When Rikki is not teaching, she spends her time reading, crafting, eating ice cream, and baking but most of all she loves spending time with her family!
