Since 1998, Joe has been an art instructor beginning at Adelphi College and then moving to the Village Artist in Huntington, New York, teaching Introduction to Art & Cartooning, Figure Drawing, Introduction to Art History & Portfolio Preparation. As well as coordinates student exhibitions and art openings.

For nearly a decade, Joe has taught private art lessons for students ranging in age from 4–90. In-home art instruction typically focuses on beginning drawing, painting, cartooning and introduction to art history and figure drawing.

In addition to being an artist, Joe was a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1991–95. Most notably, Joe served in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. Joe continues to serve his community by volunteering as a fire fighter with the Huntington Fire Department.
