Students explore these wonderful mediums while working
from a subject of their own choosing (still life, landscape,
floral, or portrait). Composition, value, color, and
paint application are just some of the concepts introduced
in this course. All levels are welcome as students usually
work individually on their own projects at their own
pace. The development of one’s personal style
is strongly encouraged while learning to master the
medium. |

Wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brush, glazing, masking,
splattering and washes are some of the techniques introduced
in this course. All levels are welcome. Mixed-media
can be explored by combining ink, charcoal, or pastels
w/ watercolors. Students are encouraged to experiment
and develop their own style through exploration of the
medium. |

Students work from still-life set-ups, photographs of
landscapes or florals, and models. Students working
in charcoal will learn to do in-depth value studies,
mastering drawing techniques that will improve their
future drawing and painting. Those working in pastel
will have the opportunity to experiment with different
surfaces and pastels while learning about color, application,
value and other important concepts. |

Students work in oil or pastel as they enter the world
of portrait painting from a live model. This unique
class teaches the fundamentals of classical painting
and drawing. Master painters are used as sources of
reference. Cast drawing (sight-drawing technique), model
posing and lighting. Preparing a surface, color mixing
(portrait palette) and demonstrations are included in
the course. |

This course (as well as Life Drawing) is a must for
the college-bound art major. Students receive individualized
instruction towards the development of a strong body
of work for their college portfolios. Drawing skills
are refined through an emphasis on contour lines, value,
proportion and composition. Painting and sculpting techniques
are also covered in this course. Students have the opportunity
to work with a variety of media - oil, pastel, charcoal,
ink, acrylic, watercolor, clay, etc. - enabling them
to create a diverse, well-rounded portfolio. Guidance
in choosing the appropriate college / art school and
art program is available, as well as work /study opportunities
at The Village Artist Fine Art School.

Experience drawing the human figure first hand, working
from a live, nude/clothed model. Students study proportion,
gesture, line quality, foreshortening, composition and
more while drawing from short / long poses. Drawing
the human skull is also included in this challenging
course. All levels are welcome. This class is strongly
recommended for high school portfolio students. |

Experiment with techniques such as marbling, sponging,
rag rolling, dragging, stippling, fade away, stone and
blocking, splatter staining, combining aging, crackling
color, washing, and ornamental finishing such as pen
work and fool gold. Learn how to prepare a surface (wood,
metal, stone, and wallboard) to receive these faux finishes.

project, or tackle a large wall or piece of furniture,
